History

The University of Ibadan was established with a statutory mandate to encourage the advancement of learning throughout Nigeria and to hold out to all persons, without distinction of race, creed or sex, the opportunity of acquiring a liberal education and the provision of such facilities for the pursuit of learning and the acquisition of a liberal education as are appropriate for a University of the highest standing as well as making those facilities available on proper terms to such person as are equipped to benefit on the use of facilities.

As a result of the prime position the university occupies in the nation, the Management of the University of Ibadan decided to extend its rich intellectual heritage towards the growth and development of a private and public sectors, not only in Nigeria, but also the whole Africa through the establishment of a world-class School of Business.

The Governing Council of the University thereafter, instituted a Committee to establish modalities for the establishment of a Business School in 2005. The Senate of the University also instituted an Ad-hoc Committee for the establishment of a Business School, after considering report of the Council Committee in 2006. The birth of the University of Ibadan, School of Business (UISB) finally came into an existence following a Committee on Actualization of UISB which was inaugurated on 29 December, 2010. The Committee’s mandate was to: build on previous efforts on the establishment of the School; take all necessary steps including development of a blue print for its actualization; visit some World-class Business Schools in 2011 and establish a Development Board in 2012. The UISB Development Board was transformed into the UISB Board of Directors which was inaugurated at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. The School operates under its pioneer Director in the person of Professor Adenike O. Osofisan and Professor Ademola Ariyo as Chairman of the Board respectively at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. The Board comprises of both internal and external members of the University. The Board is charged with the responsibilities of policy making; oversight function; networking; resource mobilization and brand building.

University of Ibadan School of Business has been reorganized into three Units, namely;

MBA (Regular, Part time and Executive)

MBA Agribusiness

Post Graduate Diploma in Management
